Me !! Me !! Me !! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/woot.gif) I just hope nothing gets in the way of it this time! I'm going to come down on Saturday and go home on Monday morning so TWO nights to have fun!!! I've emailed hubby to book the Monday off work (to dogsit and pick me up from the station) and I've put it in my own calendar already!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Now I REALLY would like to play that duet with Barry (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) , not to mention ALL the STUFF I want to do with Hannah... string ensemble.. duet with muzikalbadger, and maybe maybe a little bit of a Telemann sonata.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) Or is that being greedy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) They're all little short things. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (bit scared too tho (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) ) I'll be up for that. Let me know what duet, and I'll dig it out (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

I can virtually guarantee that I will be on holiday that week!! It is quite ridiculous that this far ahead, I can probably tell you the weeks I will be away. Actually, in any year if you just give me a calendar (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) That's what I get for having a husband who can only take certain weeks of the month because of his client list (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

For those people who have not been to or seen one of these before, maybe you could give us more of a run-through of what it actually is?
Cheers! |

H'm, not sure I'll be able to make it this time. My orchestra rehearses Sunday afternoons and it is in May that rehearsals start for the June concert... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I'm afraid that's probably going to be the case for me, too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
But difficult to plan that far ahead. |

It'll have to be a 'not sure' from me at the moment (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Like Barry, I'll probably have a concert on the Saturday night (but unlike Barry's band, ours isn't quite so organised with dates....) If I can possibly get there then I will (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thanks! Anyone fancy an ensemble similar to a Grade 1-a-thon where everyone has to play an instrument on which they are an absolute beginner? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) Absolute beginner as in never played a note on it before? If someone handed me a french horn, I wouldn't even know which way up it goes. Tetrachord, Misterioso and Louise1712 - I really hope you can make it and I can meet you all again, but if not I obviously completely understand (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Would be good to see you though!
Maizie, that's a shame (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) if things change I hope you would be able to come!! Thanks also for posting the link!! Roserodent I hope you have a clearer idea of the events now, but if you want any more information about our particular event feel free to pm me and ask questions!! Usually the ensembles are just put together on the day, with minimal rehearsal time based on the instruments people are bringing. I doubt we would be able to do a grade1athon type thing at this event as it would require a lot more practice time, and more forward planning but theres no reason why you couldn't try to organise something along these lines yourself for another date (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) It would have to come with some level of advance practice/notice. Maybe I'll try to find something to work it into a later event of some kind so everyone gets music on a set date and is on their honour to play it on an instrument they've never played before then. We did it once via the music service with all the instruments that had been handed in from students who had left, and you got your instrumnet randomly assigned out of a hat too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) I got a tenor euphonium or something. It's the first and last time I've ever appeared in the brass section. We played God Save the Queen, and really, really God save us all from that music! |

Hi,
I have never been forum events before, so I am planning to start with this event! Should be fun from what I have read... I did read the link about forum events but can some one enlighten me about the etiqutte in these forums. Such as what to expect, length of pieces, number of pieces, time of arrival, when to leave, can we record the playing etc. I am currently attempting Adagio from Crussell Concerto No. 1 (Eb Major)...I think I will play this one. Should I have to arrange my own accompanist? Regards, Balu |

You can expect many forum (and non-forum) members attending, playing various pieces both in solo and ensemble-y forms. Time limits for solos again vary : it's usually between 3-5 minutes - but muzikalbadger will know specifics for this. There will usually be a few willing accompanists around, but you'll need to specify that you want one on the application form. Forum events are fun : hope you can come to this one! I am intending to make the 450 mile or so journey north... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Thank you Barry...
I have never played with anyone other than my teacher and in the exams. So I am looking forward to playing in forum events. I think I should be able to attend...I travel to Edinburgh on alternate weekends, so a Scottish event would be ideal. |

Barry - as usual has actually answered most of your questions perfectly!! I think we shall stick to the limits we had last year which was 5 minutes per person. This can include 1 piece, several pieces, 1 solo and a duet... whatever you can fit into the 5 mins really!! If you opt to play more than one piece they will probably be split up in the programme. Accompanists can and will be provided, as long as you ask for one on the form and can post/email the accompaniment in plenty time to be practiced!! Especially as I seemed to do most of the accompanying last time (Accompanists are MORE than welcome!!) Start/finish time will be confirmed closer to the event, but will be roughly 10am-6pm ish, with a meal afterwards for anyone who wishes to join us!! There will be a webpage put up at the start of next year with all the relevant information on it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Usually we ask that no photos are taken during the final performance of everything, so as not to distract the performers, and I think to record anyone you would need to specifically ask the person/s involved in playing any particular piece - it would be their decision whether they would be happy with that or not. I probably wouldn't be if it was me! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) There will be ensembles to get involved in - these are just turn up on the day and get stuck into some easy-ish sightreading!! and are based on the instruments and abilities of the people involved. Anyone who wants to be involved can be accommodated regardless of level. If you have any other questions, even if you think they seem silly!! just drop me a pm (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Hope you can make it!!! Last year was my first forum event too, and I was organising it!! I asked MILLIONS of questions! But its great fun, and i'm sure you would love it!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |
