Haha, I wish it would be party time. I recently got the nomination for the EPSRC research studentship so I am supposedly doing some extra learning over the summer. However my potential supervisor has different ideas, and hopes we will do enough work to have an article published...the prospect of having published something before I've even thought about writing a thesis (which I will do eventually) is pretty cool, but I am guessing there needs to be substantial effort put into it...

Well done on the studentship (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hurrah.gif) I won one of the Carnegie undergraduate scholarships and had to spend the entire summer in the Uni doing research as well (it was actually on Dirac monopoles and fibre bundles hence my love of differential geometry) but it was really worthwhile (money was terrible but I was working full time in the evenings anyway).

I never did get anything published as a result except in the Carnegie library or something so I'm in awe. Just think - you will get to have a proper publications section on your CV - that is soooo impressieve irrespective if you stay in academia or go into industry.

I'm sure there will be time for some partying though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Good luck to everyone doing the dreaded exams. Best advice I can give is to do plenty of revision beforehand, get lots of sleep the night before each actual exam, and try to stay relaxed during the exam - panicking never helps!

Hope to hear lots of wonderful results in a few weeks time! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I have my Higher English on Thursday.
What texts are you writing about? This will make me sound odd, but I really enjoyed (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) the Higher English exam last year, so I hope yours goes well for you! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Do you think you'll take English in 6th year?

Nice to now that I'm not the only one spending a sunny day looking at words like Dirac, debye, quantum, 3d wave functions and probability distributions. My supervisor only gave it to me on Wednesday and he goes away for a month from next week.... so I'm frantically trying to get it finished before then. At least there isn't an exam in it afterwards, but I am having to translate it as I go. And it's the last chapter !!! Yay !!!

We've studied Hamlet and Wuthering Heights and 4 poems; "Assisi" and "Visiting Hour" by Norman MacCaig and "Afternoons" and "Ambulances" by Philip Larkin.
Hopefully there will be a nice question on Hamlet and a nice one that I could do for Assisi!
Which did you study?
Nope, not planning on taking it for 6th year! I'm taking two foreign languages to Advanced Higher, though! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

We did Othello, Iain Banks' 'The Crow Road' and 'The Death of Marilyn Monroe' by Edwin Morgan. About a week before the exam I realised I couldn't remember Othello in enough detail so didn't revise it at all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) and thankfully the questions on prose and poetry were great! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Is it French and Spanish you're going to be doing?

Dirac is currently at the bottom of my pile of paper, and I intend to keep him there for a bit longer (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Should I be worried that I have my A levels this year and don't actually know when any of my exams are.

I should really find up my exam timetable!
