Can any of you recommend a good way for a hearing impaired person to know that there's someone at the door? Ideally it would be appropriate day and night.

My parents were quite deaf in their later years, and always relied on the dog to tell them if somebody was at the door.
However, in my fathers case I often suspect that his deafness was rather 'selective'. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) SB |

Our doorbell also has a device with a light that flashes, its a Nordmann one I think. But of course it has to be in your line of sight.

I ended up splashing out on the Bellman Visit wrist pager. I wear it all day long and it vibrates if the door goes, the phone rings, my husband pushes a button for my attention, my mobile gets a text, etc. I wear it on my wrist all day and at night it goes on the charger which also connects it to an underbed vibrating pad. I tried other solutions but this was the most comprehensive for me. Wasn't cheap, though! Social services may give some assistance either directly or through a local charity, but the system they offered me free of charge only made the existing doorbell receiver flash... in the room it's in. Since I don't sit in the hallway all day, that was pointless! In some areas they will wire up the whole house with all sorts, though, so worth an enquiry.
