I've got my pupils' result. She got 85 for grade 5, so we're both very happy! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I've just checked and mine are online as well. 96 for Grade 5. Well pleased. Off to buy the Grade 6 book. I just looked and mine are there too..... 86% for a Grade 2 and 94% for a tiny, Grade 1. i am really pleased with those! Well done to others for their results too.... Thanks guys!, Just checked online and it's there!!! 89 for my wee 10 yr old grade 1'er. She'll be delighted, I'll go and phone her now!! My student got 85 for their grade 5. I'm very pleased with that. I'm currently studying for my GCSEs, Im just 15 years old. Over the past 10 weeks, I taught my mum's friend's son (10 year old) the grade 5 theory course. Being completely new to teaching, it was a great experience, and.. he got a merit (86)! so happy! Scrappy Doo passed his grade 4 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) - he didn't get quite as high a mark as he would have liked, but I have salvaged his ego by showing him my old grade 4 certificate and proving to him that he is the youngest member of the family ever to have achieved this (I was 6 months older when I took it!!) Congratulations everyone! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) And good to see you posting again, Lucid! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

I have just had to tell my theory candidate that he failed Grade 5 theory. Poor lad, he was tired and stressed when he arrived straight from school, and looked so upset when I told him the bad news.

Commiserations to you and your pupil - I'm finding all my pupils tired at the moment. It's not a great time of term to be getting bad news. I hope you can encourage him to try again in due course. |

That's a real shame for him but on the positive side he can explore more repertoire in between and maybe have a choice of exam pieces which suit him best and which he can perform best. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Poor lad (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) As soon as I saw the result online I sent an email to the Board to ask if it is possible to get his paper so I could see where and how he had gone so disastrously wrong (he'd been scoring at a very comfortable pass/merit level on all of last year's papers, and I'm a hard marker so expected him to do at least equally well). They were great - within an hour someone rang me to explain my options. I need to wait until the mark sheet arrives and if that doesn't shed much light onto the reasons for failure I can go through the appeals system to get a more detailed breakdown of how he did. This will have to be paid for, it'll cost half the exam fee so I'll wait and see what the mark sheet reveals. I agree that it gives us the opportunity to explore more Grade 6 repertoire, but we've been doing that for the last 2 years since he did Grade 5 and had explored more than just three exam pieces. I think I'll spend the time getting scales, aural etc up to scratch as well as some new Grade 6 material. He's certainly not yet ready to tackle any Grade 7 stuff. Sent him home last night with strict instructions to discuss with his parents what he wants to do now - they are both music teachers so well aware of the options available. |

My students' theory exam results were flagged up by email yesterday morning, but the certificates and mark sheets have not arrived yet. (One distinction at Grade 1, and two healthy passes at Grade 3). Certificates always seem to arrive in the weeks that school holidays begin, so I usually end up delivering them. That can be a nice opportunity to chat with parents I rarely see, but can be very painful if a student has been unsuccessful.

I went into school to Wed and told my little Grade 1 candidate she got 94% and her first comment was 'Where did i lose marks?', not "Yes!".... everyone else was telling her well done.... gosh she's hard on herself.... I think she's 8!
Then she came to the theory class (I teach theory in that school in a group of about 8) and again she asked if I got the paper back (no, sorry) and how can she find out how she lost her marks!!!!!! Bless.... she is such a teachable girl- a sponge! |
