Newbie Group: Members Posts: 9 Joined: 14-March 09 Member No.: 58918	Hello again, Does anyone know if the candidate can play their 'B piece' before their 'A piece'? Obviously piece C has to come after because of the accompanist but are they able to play B before A or does it have to go in an A,B, C order? Many thanks. Bec XxX

Actually you can do the exam in any order, but it's easiest to go in with the accompanist rather than getting them fetched from the waiting room in the middle of the exam. Then I get a minute's breathing space while the accompanist is called in (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) At this exam centre we fill in repertoire slips while waiting so the examiner knows the order in which we are doing the pieces.

As an accompanist I've been called in at the start for some and fetched later on for others. It may depend upon the proximity of the waiting-room to the exam-room; ours is close by, so the majority of candidates have fetched me after doing their scales. Most of my candidates have done them 'in order' but some have chosen to play B ,A, C. We have slips as well. Just make sure that the accompanist knows the order you've chosen!

If you're mainly looking for someone to accompany lower grades, where the accompaniments aren't too difficult, a student around grade 7 standard would be fine. A piano teacher might be able to recommend one of his students who'd love the experience of accompanying.
