Starting with a new teacher in a few weeks time is making me practice like there's no tomorrow (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) - I'm determined to start off positively.

Hope things are a bit more hopeful at your end, jojo (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hi Inigo,
I have all of a sudden got the violin 'bug' in me again just yesterday!
I feel like I really want to get stuck into it again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I just need lessons again (not having had lessons in 10 months!!) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Gently does it at first.... say she who took up the horn just over a week ago and was told to do 2 x 15 minutes practice a day and has been very very very bad indeed and done much more than that. Naughty. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif)

So that's another reason to keep practicing, starting to learn a new instrument. Hmm... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I practice my violin because I have that vague goal of wanting to improve, but have no ultimate goal of where I want to be because I don't know how far I will, or could, get. I occasionally fantastise about being grade 8 and getting into a local amateur orchestra, but I know and happily accept I may never get that far. But I keep working at improving because I enjoy it. Simple as that!
Jojo, I hope you enjoy getting back into making music. May I be slightly mischievous and say that have you noticed alot of violin players also enjoy playing recorder as well.....? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I practise the horn to remain a competent member of a brass quintet. I practise the double bass to remain a competent member of my orchestra, which has a concert on 20th October. I practise the piano because I shall be playing the Kegelstatt Trio (with friends in private) next January. I don't know whether practising makes me a better player, but I know if I didn't I would become a worse one.
