DS1 came home happily saying that his new teacher said he should do very well at G2, but is capable of G3 or even maybe G4 on the trumpet.
After 2 years I'm quite pleased that my assessment that he was ready for G3 with a bit of focussed work seems to be about right, and it's given him a much needed lift in the first few days of secondary school. |

That's nice news, dulcet. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The first few months at secondary school are a big change and it's good to have a confidence booster. Hope your son continues to enjoy his trumpet for many years to come.

Great news, Dulcet. Glad your son has some positive news to perk him up in these early days at secondary school. Daughter is finding the first week at the new school pretty exhausting.
And, of course, always nice (and reassuring) to know that you were right. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Wish Younger SonD good luck tommorrow. He has his first Violin Lesson tommorrow for about 5 years so it is a new teacher and he is essentially a beginner. He has a nice new German 3/4 size violin (actually it is second hand and is of better quality than the average beginner instrument as a result)
He has been looking forward to this for three years! |

Good luck Jod's son!
Dulcet, is this a peripatetic teacher or did you go private? |

Good Luck Jod's son from me too!!!
DS has his first lesson with a new teacher tomorrow, and I now have to write her a little note to explain what he's upto this term!!! The Chief Exec of our Trust phoned me a couple of weeks ago to tell me about the change (we all knew previous teacher had resigned when he told all the kids at the end of last term!). Anyway she is a Violin player, so he sounded a bit apologetic about it. I'm SO glad that old teacher asked to carry on with DS privately, he's a professional Violist so is a bit more in tune with DS (scuse the pun!). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) DS doesn't seem bothered at all, but then he does have to come home and have an hour with old teacher anyway! I can see him being completely Viola'd out by 6pm tomorrow! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ill.gif) |

For the time being yes! Not ideal, but we'd already paid for the term with the Trust, it'll also be much easier for DS to do his G5 at Christmas with the Trust, plus old teacher wasn't always the most communicative about lessons etc, so we thought it was good to 'test' the water before burning any bridges. So far old teacher is being very good about organising lessons etc, so if there are no problems we'll stick with him only after this term. Of course, if it turns out that there are major differences of opinion with DS stuck in the middle, then we'll have to rethink much sooner! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) |

YSD greeted me in the playground complete with Violin and was buzzing about his lesson.
He was really keen to practise. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Congratulations, too, on having a child who ever remembers to bring his instrument home without being sent back at least twice. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Again - long may it last. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

Looks like my little DS is going to follow in the footsteps of his big brother - he trotted off upstairs to get something and came back a few minutes looking blank with nothing in his hand, I asked him where it was and he replied "Oh yes!" and trotted off again! (He's 3 1/2!)!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I suppose everyone has heard about DS' first lesson with his new teacher! I think that it went generally OK, but DS didn't feel particularly inspired (she didn't say a positive thing to him once), he is willing to give it a go, but did say would prefer a different teacher! The aftermath was something else! (if you haven't seen - I was the FURIOUS MUM of yesterday!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) ) Lovely to hear that others are having better experiences (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |
