Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, of choice of colour in the room where you practise/play/teach/compose ?

The rooms at my school have bare brick walls, so I'm kind of used to that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Mine is a warm pink colour - I know pink sounds weird - but it is the closest colour which I can link it to.

Our lounge is now a warm peachy-pink colour with a border of faint gold stars and I really like playing in there, but it used to be pale green and I didn't like playing in there so much then, it felt really cold and uninspiring.
Are you planning to redecorate Muddy Paws? I just (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) lurve (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) paint charts - I think in another life I would like to be the person who thinks up all the wacky names for paint colours. I always like to choose paints with appropriate names (bit like choosing wine because of a pretty label (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ). My lounge paint is called "Snuggle up" which I thought conjured up a great image. The kitchen is Treacle Cream, and the utility room is Lunch Date which always makes me laugh. My daughter's bedroom is Brasserie, which we renamed Brassiere as it seemed more appropriate. Maybe you can find a paint with a musical sounding-name that will inspire your playing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) There's bound to be some research somewhere about colours which influence creativity in different ways. Also I think some Feng Shui principles relate to colour. Rambling now so I'll stop... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

My wall is cream too, and we have paintings of the sea hanging on the walls, a persian carpet, a sheepskin rug and a huge chinese painting of a girl with a donkey carrying a basketful of flowers and light blue background. It was a gift from my art teacher too, bless his soul! Inspiring indeed.

Mine is a small room with a light biscuity carpet, very pale green walls and floaty cream curtains. I find it soothing rather than cold, but that's just me... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

My room at home for teaching and practicing is cream with a wooden pine floor. Its quite bit so has nice accoustics and makes even my worst pupil sound nice on her clarinet!
The one I teach in at a school has no windows and brick walls. A bit like a prison. Nothing on the walls either. |

I have white walls and a crimson red carpet. It looks quite cool, because we have a white sofa with red cushion, and red and white and black painting, and the Piano is black. So the whole room is basically three colours (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I like it!

All the walls of mine are different shades of yellow. Not bright yellow, but ranging from pale lemon to sand, depending on which wall needs to reflect the most light. The floor is pale wood, and the general consensus when I did it was that it was nice and cheerful, but relaxing. It sets off plants well, and I've tried to keep it clutter-free, but you know how it is... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thanks everyone who's shared their colourscheme. Yes, I am decorating. It used to be yellow walls and lilac carpet. I really liked that and felt so comfortable with it I would have been happy to do the same again, but that's a bit pointless.
I've bought curtains from Ikea that contain so many different colours my daughter said they belong in a circus and she's never going to bring her friends here EVER!!! When I bought them, I thought it would be easy to match them to walls/carpet etc, but it's actualy quite hard. I don't want to just do everything cream, but on the other hand, I don't want to make people uncomfortable. I'm considering a red leather sette but everything else very pale..... A good compromise? |
