Well if you are thinking of a YAMAHA piano exam, there IS a Grade 9. It's graded the same way as their electone (electric organ) exams. Beginning with the levels e.g 14-10 then Grade 9 right up to Grade 1, which is the most difficult. Normally piano teachers with Grade 4 or 5 qualify to teach.

perhaps it sounds strange, but i really don't know what grade I'm in. <_< This is because i play the piano for only two years now. Perhaps someone else knows it. my pianoteacher (who ofcourse studied at the conservatory) told me to search for a new instrument to play (i play 9 instruments at this moment) because he isn't able to teach me anymore. That means i just finished the upper grade. how many grades are there anyway?

My teacher says I can play pieces at about grade 6, but that's a long way from actually passing the grade 6 exam!! Working towards Trinity 1st concert certificate at present, which is supposed to be grade 5/6 technical standard. You get a longer list of pieces to choose from, and have to present them as a 15 min concert with introductions etc. No scales / sight reading / aural but a 5 min oral exam after performance and there are also marks for stage skills / presentatiion.
I'm planning on playing Beethoven first movement sonata in G (op 49, no 2), Mozart 1st movement from sonata in E flat, Milhaud, rag caprise no 2 - Romance, and Maxwell davis Farwell to stromness. I *may* try grade 6 if the Concertr ceertificate isn't too traumatic, particularly if I can play Prayer of the Matador!!! I think I'd do the Copin piece on list B and the A1 piece whose name I can't remember. I've done all the scales etc for grade 6, but I must confess I've hardly practised them since I started work towards the Concert Certificate. |
