I know, I know, some of us haven't even recovered (financially) from Christmas 5 years ago, let alone thinking about the one arriving in 2007, but I just wanted to put out some 'feelers' on an idea both I and katyjay have had.

A festive Adult Learners gathering (Christmas Cheers, perhaps??) playing a few seasonal tunes over a mince pie and coffee. It would be an extremely informal event, wear your party gear (IMG:style_emoticons/default/party1.gif) or whatever you like (within reason!), and bring your instrument along to play some traditional Yuletide melodies (for the Pagans amongst us), or your favourite Christmas carols (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chorale.gif)

The venue would be Bushy House at NPL in Teddington and at the moment I'm looking at a date either at the end of October (if it's a Saturday), so as to avoid the examination period, or a Sunday in November if more people think this would suit them better.

Personally, i'd rather celebrate Christmas at Christmas time (Dec.) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

No worries and no need for strong guys or trolleys. There's a Steinway grand on site..........

Yes, I had thought about December, but most people with families to cater for are fairly busy come weekends in December.

If anyone would like to suggest a weekend in December it can probably be fixed.

Yes, I know it seems early in the year to have suggested this, but katyjay and I are very busy people and leaving things to the last minute until asking what interest we might get - only to find everyone has organised their Christmas run-up weekends by then anyway - was not an option.

I'd be interested - but despite BEING an adult learner, I don't think I count as an adult learner any more (not for the AL concerts, anyway), so would I be welcome (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)?

On the plus side I like the idea of an informal festive event, but on the downside I'm not sure I could commit to travelling that sort of distance in November. And October seems a bit early for Christmas festivities. If there was some other reason to be festive in October, I'd definitely come though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Come to think of it, do we need a reason for a music party (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Well, there are tentative plans afoot to run a Summer Soiree with picnic at the same venue in the gardens, with possible use of The Orangery - which is a Victorian glasshouse housing a very very old grape vine. The British weather being what it is would mean taking pot luck, but if it turned out to be wet, cold and windy (yup, sounds like an average British summer day when an event is planned (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ) then we would still have use of the house.

If it goes ahead, summer 2008 is where we're currently looking at.

As far as this year is concerned, if October(ish) gets more support, then Halloween is the only sort of event I can think of that runs in that month, but again, it's almost November by then as well.

Whoever would like to attend, whether they technically classify themselves as an adult learner or not, would be very welcome.

A picnic summer soiree sounds wonderful - I would definitely like to come to that and Bushy House looks like a lovely location for it.

Halloween at the end of October sounds much more feasible weather/travel-wise - and I could play Witches Dance from one of my clarinet books (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

But if you decide to make it November, I'll try and come depending on the weather/travel conditions - it just means that it's difficult to commit to it in advance.

Both the autumn '07 and the summer '08 events sound very good. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Given a choice, looking at what I'm likely to be doing in late October/November, I'd prefer a Sunday over a Saturday. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
