The amazing Karen Geoghegan playing bassoon pieces by Hummel, Weber, Elgar...
I had the great privilege of hearing her live two weeks ago (her mum Lucinda is a friend and colleague of mine and Karen came to the BKA Summer School to play). I loved her on Classical Star but in the flesh she is even more brilliant - she makes that instrument absolutely sing. Gorgeous music, gorgeously played. This concert on BBC iplayer. It features some young musicians from Manchester, and dates from the 1970s, I think. I wonder if any of them are still playing?
