i've only been playing for 3 months but my breathing has come on miles with a few different techniques.

first of all, play long notes.first play for 4 beats, then try 8, 12 and so on.Do this every day if possible.

Second of all, practice without the flute. As if you are tonguing, just release a little bit of air and see how long you can go for, then try longer.

hope that helps a little bit.

The thing you need to make sure is to relax and breath deeply and try to get as big a breath at each rest as possible.
