That confused me slightly - I saw a list of pieces with the name 'Jane Jackson' attached and thought that was a slightly odd name given they were all chaps' songs.

One slight issue to consider might be righting your notes - I can't remember the word limit off hand, but dividing it between 12 songs might be a bit of a challenge, but maybe you can deal with that a bit by discussing the two Faures together and obviously the two V-Ws.

Hi there
It might be worth checking re the usage of more than one piece by a composer :-

"In your choice of repertoire, you should aim to present a generalist programme that
offers a wide-ranging yet coherent mixture of periods, style, mood and tempo, with no
more than one work by any single composer (except where a combination of
movements or pieces from a composer?s collection is indicated in the prescribed lists)."

I've copied the above text from the syllabus - so you might want to check with ABRSM. It may well be that the Vaughn Williams is fine as they are both from the Songs of Travel Cycle.

Only a thought!
Good luck. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thanks for raising this, I have checked again and this is from the online syllabus:

"you should aim to present a generalist programme that
offers a wide-ranging yet coherent mixture of periods, style, mood and tempo, with no
more than one work by any single composer (except for vocal items or where a
combination of movements or pieces from a composer?s collection is indicated in the
prescribed lists)"

They do specifically say 'one or more' of 3 VW Songs of Travel also...so I think this is all OK

No problem, I just felt it was easier to mention incase it hadn't been considered. I know I found that the information relating to the choice etc is placed in a number of different sections in the syllabus so can be easy to miss.

Vectistim mentioned re the programme notes. I had a similar number of pieces for my Dip and found that it was a challenge finding relevant things to say about each piece without repetition and trying to go into a little more depth. I would be happy to send you a copy of the notes I did if you think it would be of interest, although you may have it covered. PM me if you'd like any more info.

Good luck. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
