Hi,
I'm going on the Associated Board's 'Teaching Music Effectively' course in London in a couple of weeks. I wondered if any of you out there are also going. I'm really looking forward to it and it would be nice to know if any of you will be there. Tasha :D |

If you have a look at the professional development part of the site, it should be there. It is a new course designed for new(ish) teachers of all instruments or voice run over two weekends with a break of five weeks or so in the middle for assessments. I've just done the first weekend and they talk about teaching, learning, improvisation, ICT, first lessons and you have time with a mentor for your instrument. You have to do an assignment and then have a lesson observed and video a later lesson then do the second weekend. I learnt a lot the first weekend and really enjoyed it. I am putting some of the ideas into practice now and my pupils have reacted positively.
It is a new short-course, a bit of a taster for the CTABRSM but I think it's worth doing if you can. Costs around £500. Happy teaching Tasha :) |

As good as the course maybe, musicians in general are not a wealthy bunch and £2000+ for the CT is an expensive route to go, even if it is very useful and worthwhile. |

Yes, I only have 4 pupils so far (I don't want too many) so £2000 is a bit too much for the time being. I can say that this course is well worth the money.
Tasha  |
