OK...having found an alternative route (why are there no direct buses from London Bridge to Stockwell? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) ), I'll come along on 23rd May. Will I need anything apart from my voice?...

LOL!!!

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Btw, Stockwell is on Victoria as well as Northern Line - so hopefully despite engineering works on the latter on 23rd May people will still be able to get to the venue via the former...

QUOTE(Cyrilla @ Apr 17 2010, 02:16 PM) *

Tomorrow sees the inaugural meeting of the brand-new 'London Kodály Choir'.

The choir will meet at the Stockwell Community Resource Centre in Studley Road (1 minute from Stockwell Tube Station) from 2-5pm on the following Sundays - 18th April, 23rd May, 6th June and 4th July.

The choir will use solfège and the principles of music education of Zoltán Kodály to make choral music accessible to all. All levels of experience will be welcome.

The cost is £10.00 per session for non-BKA members, £7.50 for BKA members and £5.00 for students. This includes music, which will be provided.

The choir will be led by renowned Kodály music educator, David Vinden.

So - if you are either already familiar with solfa and the Kodály principles - or whether this is completely and utterly new to you - do please come along to one or all of the sessions and enjoy making lovely music with other people. Benjaminja, zolly's dude and I from the forums will be there!

Do please PM me if you would like to know more.

VERY excited about this new venture - wish us luck!!!

Hi Cyrilla,

This sounds really interesting and glad to hear the 1st date went well.
Is it really OK for a complete beginner to singing?
(My only singing experience is the few notes in the aural exam - which I hate!)

I imagine it would be fine - but I must leave Cyrilla to give the definitive word on that!

What I would like to add is that if you do join, you will hate the exam -singing much less next time!

Hi smd (I'm afraid every time I see your name, my thinking voice goes, 'so-mi-do' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ).

Glad to hear of your interest!

I think the only way for you to find out is to come along - suck it and see! You probably will find the whole solfa thing a tad overwhelming to begin with, but so did I when I first started singing in a (solfa) choir - a lot of it went over my head and I just clung on by my fingertips...but now, 'x' number of years later, I'm totally at home...so give it a try!

There will be copies of the music with all the solfa names written in, so that will be helpful - also there are quite a lot of experienced people that you can sit next to and who will help. There were a few people at the first meeting who had never sung in a choir before, or who were new to solfa - and none of them looked too traumatised by the end of the session!!

If you do come, PM me beforehand so that we can introduce ourselves.

And Maggie's right in what she says...
