I use a Korg tuner with the clip-on microphone (clips onto bridge of viols/cello). You can vary the pitch (I need both A=440 and A=415). It's fairly reliable. The tuner is about GBP20 and the mike is about GBP15.
Cellos are easier to tune than viols... |

I use a Cherub Violin Tuner, and I love it. It can tune the violin using both natural notes and flat notes. I've never used the flat setting on the tuner, and I'm guessing I'll never need too.
Also it's really easy to use as you just clip on the scroll, and then bow the string until the string your tuning goes from red to green Loz xx |

Hubby has a tuner for his guitar.
I tune no2sons violin from an A either from the piano or from my tuning fork and then tune the rest of the strings using perfect fifths. If I am then accompanying him, I then have to adjust the strings to equal temprament. |

I don't think my tuner would care to be considered as being "used".....

I use a tuner to check I have A in tune and then tune the rest from the A.
Ideally I would use a piano to tune to but I don't have one! |
