An earthquake in New Zealand and political unrest in north Africa / the middle east are not proof (or evidence) that the world is going to end in 2012 due to a Mayan prophecy. A prophecy that must be true because you learnt about it on a documentary channel.

That's what I'd like to say to my colleague but for the sake of office harmony I can't (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

anyone wants to go and measure the probability of an earthquake somewhere significant in the world and unrest somewhere else significant in the world happening in the same year, bet it's pretty high.

..... especially unrest in north Africa or the middle east, and earthquakes in areas where there are geological faults or where the earth's crust is thin.

Sorry to be less serious but on the BBC website regarding the Cornish Pasty now being protected.

"It said the filling should be "chunky, made up of uncooked mince or chunks of beef with swede, potato and onion and a light seasoning" and that the pasty should be slow-baked".

Mince???

Katie S joined the forums at noon today , and so far has managed 46 posts ! She is definitely hooked.
Barry and Car Expert had better watch out at the top of the all time list !!

Later edit, no chance !! Barry has done more than 100 today. Whats the record for one poster in a day ??

Its goodnight from me now.

And it's goodnight from him (IMG:style_emoticons/default/goodNight.gif)

Couldn't resist, though it dates me dreadfully. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

On a more personal note I hope pianoeater and baiba are OK... I live in an earthquake-prone country and sometimes thinks my family are a bit ridiculous when they ring up in a panic about a quake 500 miles off... but I do hope neither of you are in the Christchurch area or at least are not affected.

Shame I don't have as much time to put into it now as I did the first 18 months. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I'll redouble my efforts once the house renovation is done... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

It is scary how many people believe completely irrational things on the flimsiest "evidence", or worse no evidence (or "Politican's evidence" as I call it ... I would like this to be true, therefore it is true) - especially when many of them are in positions of power and reponsibility.
