I suppose another question we could ask is how much it costs you to get your lesson, especially with people flying from Scotland and travelling such long distances.

Cello : 4.20 return

Kodaly : 7.50 return

All the above are TfL Oyster fares (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

About 120 calories (1 mile there, 1 mile back, at about 60 calories a mile).

And apparently this is what 120 calories looks like: http://www.fitsugar.com/What-120-Calories-Looks-Like-454335

Not quite in the same league as travelling from Scotland, but my 45mins each way to band may have to be reconsidered soon (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) due to DD's increasing musical commitments (both time and cost!!) and to the ever increasing cost of petrol.

Hmm, I average about 45mpg, so on that basis:

Cello: 3.70
Viol: 5.70
Sax: 7.10

Depending on time of sax lesson, car parking might be payable as well.

I think it's probably about 6.00 to drive to a lesson and back.

The thing is, it is now the only journey I need my car for (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) So, in theory all my insurance, MOT, excise duty, servicing, etc, costs have to go against music lessons as well (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
(When I work in London on a Tuesday, I drive to the nearest tube station, because that way it costs [including parking] about half the amount that it would cost if I went to my local train station [which takes about as long to walk to as the tube station does to drive to]. But, if I did at any point lose the car and all associated costs, it would probably work out about the same...)

Its a half hour speed walk either way from mine to my violin teacher. And I do mean speed walk, my area is not the nicest part of Glasgow and I feel very nervous wandering about with my violin on my back. My teacher keeps trying to give me lifts and has now changed my lesson time so I don't have to walk in the dark. She's awesome! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

28 miles (40 minutes total) return three times a week. Covering 5 lessons / group classes. Another group is just across the playing fields from the house---5 mins walk---- but I am usually dashing back from one of the others by car to be there in time.
Always go by car, and do weekly shop, library, hair cut, bank business, etc, or go for a walk, between classes, or just sit in the music centre cafe with a book and a mug of their excellent coffee, trying to avoid their equally excellent cakes ! I am a bit worried about using the car so much, but I hardly use it the rest of the week, as most things can be fitted in between classes. The "refreshments" add to the enjoyment and to the cost, as does parking----between ?3 ---?5 per week, but the bus times do not fit in well, and I would be hanging around outside (or in the pub!) for 90 minutes in the evening, with my fiddle on my back. Even when the days are longer and warmer I do not relish the idea, and do not really have the time. Irony is I have my free bus pass!
