I don't know why it suddenly started again - maybe i've been working more (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) But i've developed a nasty rash on my neck from, i suspect the shoulder rest clamp. I had it before over a year ago but it cleared up but now its back since about 2 or 3 weeks ago and is getting very nasty, very itchy very sore looks gross!! I'm going to go to the drs about it but I like my chinrest (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) I find a cloth makes it feel insecure, a strad pad wont go on my chinrest as it's a funny shaped one (the Berber one?) hmmm :/

Anyone else had this?

Maybe you have a sensitivity to the metal? Try clear nail varnish on it, it's helped me with my piccolo lip plate....

buy the item at the bottom of this page:

http://www.violins.ca/fittings/chinrests/c...ests_parts.html

ps the order form is not 'geared' for international orders, just email them, am sure they will ship to uk if you ask

Or try a white cotton table napkin folded up and place over the chinrest and under the bottom of the violin through the shoulder rest. Can be obtained from supermarket for not much money (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Could you tuck a small piece of chamois around the clamp until it calms down? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) Or maybe put something over the rash while practicing. I mean like a dry dressing (melolin or something like that) you could buy from the chemist, and it could be attached with some micropore tape. At least it would have time to heal up. Hope it feels better soon (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

You could spiral wrap some soft ribbon round the metal? That way it wouldn't bulk it out too much like some of the pads but it would keep the metal off your skin.

Titanium bracket would solve the problem.

Rather than trying to secure a layer of something to the instrument... I used to put a thin scarf round my neck when this happened. Additional benefit is that it hides the rash as well....

I eventually got around the problem by growing a beard but appreciate this may not be an appropriate solution for everyone.
