I want to copy a backing track from a CD to my iPod
The problem is that, unlike some accompaniment CDs, it doesn't come with separate "performance" (i.e. with solo instrument) and backing tracks. It's recorded in stereo so you just turn down the left or right channel to get the solo instrument on its own or the backing guitar on its own. Does anyone know how I can transfer this to the iPod in such a way that I can only use the backing guitar? I can't see that either iPod or iTunes have a way of changing the left-right balance but that may just be my ignorance. Or perhaps there's away of editing/saving the track through third-party software such as Audacity? |

Certainly should be possible with Audacity. I can't remember if it'll extract the file directly, or if you need to extract to a .wav (i.e. uncompressed audio) first, but then you should be able to delete the unwanted channel, and convert the remaining one to mono.
