Hey people, thought it'd be fun to see who you'd all nominate for the forums award of Most Amazing Drummer? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Each person is allowed to put forward a maximum of three names. I'll start by nominating;
  • John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)
  • Joey Jordison (Slipknot)
  • John Dolmayan (System of a Down)

Get nominating! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Don't really know that many but I've been told that my profile pic is apparently the spitting image of Neal Peart! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Let's go for 3 drummers/percussionists from different musical genres.

Evelyn Glennie (and then there's all the other percussion instruments she plays.....)
Gene Krupa
Cozy Powell

Who has been nominated for Best Instrumentalist in the BBC Jazz Awards this year (after winning Rising Star in 2004). Nice to see a drummer in amongst the saxophonists, and just to show I don't suffer from instrumental bias I'd be delighted to see him win.

Roger Taylor

Haha well yes maybe in the 70s (some great drumming on those 70s albums) before too much fast-living and no practice turned him into a flabby pile of...ahem, bad drummer.

I've always felt that an excellent drummer makes such a difference.

e.g.:

Radiohead - would be so much better if Phil Selway wasn't so, well, wooden...

Foo Fighters - Dave Grohl ranks among the best drummers purely because he puts everything of himself into every hit. Taylor Hawkins is maybe technically better (and still hits the drums hard) but just doesn't have that X-factor.

I've always thought that Green Day would be pants if they weren't lucky enough to have their fantastic drummer...

Another great drummer in a 'non-drummer-y' band: the guy from the Cranberries. Absolutely mint.

I play the piano, but I'd really like to play the drums. It is quite possibly the best instrument of all.
