I agree! I have but one friend with whom I can spend absolutely hours discussing the merits of different hymn books, violin strings, my issues with the higher octave on the flute, 6th position, chorale music, anthems for church, childrens' music books, vocal ranges...

...and I met him through this forum. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

How do you all go about it? What kind of music do you play together? Do you need to practise specially for such a get-together event? Piano duets sound like much fun, but I don't know who enjoys such playing...

Depends on the event teoani.

I've got a load of ensemble music, which gets used at the playdays. I or someone else finds a hall, we then publicise it on the forum and locally, then we all turn up and play. No practising needed for these beforehand.

The forum events and adult learner events are different - we do practice in our own time before these, as largely they consist of solo/small group items. Again, a forum member hires a hall, and it's always publicised on the forum, and very frequently it's also publicised locally.

Wow... sounds like so much fun! I would definitely want to drop in on one of your events if I ever visit the UK!

Hmm, if I still can't find anyone to play music with, I will try to join a local choir (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Somebody must be keen on music there!

Still maybe another year or two to retirement and I'll be able to do more , even get to a Forum event (Is there Chester one planned ?)

Yep - all paid for and ready to go. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

It's on the 19th September this year.

Would love to see you there! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yay.gif)

Thanks Barry, but as Mrs. is retiring from teaching (in Chester!) this summer, we will almost certainly take our holiday in mid September this year, after schools have gone back and when its cheaper ! This is most annoying (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) . I'll see what I can wangle .
