I've spotted that Peter Grimes will be performed on 24th August and was wondering whether it is likely to be a performance of the whole opera or just extracts? Does anyone have any experience of opera at the Proms?

As it's timed to start at 7.00pm and finish at 10.30pm, you're not going to be getting extracts! Of course, as it's a concert performance you won't be getting costumes, scenery, or much in the way of staging etc, either. Personally, I'd rather be seeing this one at the Coliseum. But last year I enjoyed the WNO Meistersinger, with Bryn Terfel, which was kind of semi-staged; and the year before Fidelio was extremely well done. Still thinking about Pelleas on Sunday.. I love this opera, and it's very rarely done here.

You'lll get the lot unless the Proms guide says otherwise.

Peter Grimes is being performed in full. See you there - I'll be the one in a knitted sweater with an anchor motif (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
