Hello.
Can anyone advise me on the choice of a sling/strap for my bass recorder There is nothing available locally so I shall have to use mail order, if I can find someone who supplies what I want. Perhaps I should say that my bass is an ancient direct blow with a ring to which a clip or hook can be fitted. I have looked online and seen Saxophone and clarinet straps but nothing specificically for the recorder. I like the look and potential comfort of Neotech straps from theit illustrations. Any advice wuld be appreciated. Thamk you Fipple |

Can't really speak for bass recorders, but I'd avoid elasticated Neotech straps for sax (as opposed to standard straps), as they can bounce around and cause strain. I'd imagine it'd be much the same for bass recorder, and certainly I'd avoid elasticated straps for bass recorder too... |

The strap for my Küng bass is a fantastic thing *goes to look at it* - no name on it but there is a plastic tag in the bottom of my bass case which says Neotech, so it probably is what has just been advised against...my bass is pearwood, direct-blow, knick configuration, and I have to say the combination of neoprene strap for round my neck and nylon cord to fit into the adjusting mechanism is very comfortable - and the adjustment is dead easy to slide up and down, staying put wherever it has been placed. I'm very pleased with it.
I'm guessing that a sax will be rather heavier than a bass recorder, so prone both to bouncing around and gradually sinking downwards during playing? |

Saunders Recorders list a bass sling in their accessories section of the website. £12-50, I think. I just tried my daughter's alto sax strap on my knick bass and even with the strap at its full extent I can't get the recorder in my mouth, so clearly some care is needed in strap selection.

Not all neotech staps are elasticated. It confused me at first as we have a Sax one that isn't. The elastic ones are very streachy. I think I'd go with the Bass Recorder one to be sure that you get the right fit. We used an Oboe strap on the first Cor but it didn't work at all on the Howarth. |

Thank you akk for your helpful advice; this is a wonderful forum
On balanceI shall do what I should have done in the foirst place ad take my bass to a music shop to ensure a good fit. I live out in the sticks and normally relyl on mail order but choosing an untried strap strap could give rise to a lotof hassle. Thank you all Fipple |

Alternatively you could get an adjustable spike from a German recorder builder. Trouble is, it would set you back about 80 EUROS.
