QUOTE(Littlegem @ Jun 29 2012, 05:26 PM) *

Thought I would put this thread to bed with the news I actually passed!!

I'm so thrilled I got merits for all three pieces as I thought I had major mucked up.
Sightreading was OK
Scales that sounded like I was beating the keys with a smoked trout, 16 out of 21, I wouldn't have given myself 3 points so really pleased.
Aural let me down as only just passed on that, and I thought that went well, but what do I know! obviously not a lot (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Overall 117 so only just missed a merit which considering how I thought it went is amazing!

Thanks again to all the messages of hope in my darkest hour (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

And good luck to everyone else taking exams at the moment!

I don't believe it (as Victor Mildrew would say) but I passed my grade 8 piano despite nerves getting the better of me and fingers not working properly on the day. Phew. A lot of work over 8 years, but worth it and i can get back to normality and being creative in composing and recording.

A little sympathy, please.

95 for the grade 4 piano exam. I knew on the day I hadn't quite done enough to scrape through - pieces were hesitant, scales and arpeggios were undisciplined, and aural was average.

Still can't decide why I don't give of my best in exam conditions. Pieces were certainly at pass standard in the last few lessons and scales etc were pretty secure.

Perhaps I should stick to singing. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sing.gif)

*sympathy for stetenorve*

I got 96 for my first Grade 7 attempt, if that makes you feel any better...

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

I NEVER did my best in exams of any sort.

Happens to the very best of us, stetenorve. Exams can do strange things to pieces etc. Sympathies : but my suspicion is you are actually grade 4 standard, it's just that on the day, it didn't quite happen. Enjoy your music making (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Sympathy for stetenorve. Also (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fruitcake.gif)
Don't give up.

Maybe as well as practicing the piano you need to practice the exam conditions?
Did you do a mock exam? Do you practice playing for other people?

(I'd better start taking my own advice as I'm hoping to take my grade 4 piano in the Autumn.)

Sympathy from me too, and a huge slice of chocolate cake to make you smile again. Those piano exams are so difficult for us grown-up folk.
