While we are about it ... is there a set key along the keyboard where scales should be started? Where do you - or most people - start playing F (4 octaves) or E, for example? I find that if I start on the F 3 octaves down from middle C I don't get so far right when I get to the top but that F seems to be much too low ...
However, wy teacher suggested starting all scales (from F onwards) 3 octaves down from middle C (the first F on the keyboard, to put it simply). Any thoughts?

You can start your scales from whichever octave you want - there's no points lost or gained for a "correct" start - so go with whichever feels most comfortable.

I do it that way too.
