Aaaaaaaaaaagh, today in church. Musicians a bit thin on the ground as it's holidays, so practically solo performance. Well, elderly man on piano.
Hymns and choruses for today were emailed on Thursday. No problem, bit of practice yesterday, feels confident. Play the first three (trumpet) = loud pretty well. Then prayers, then sermon, then last hymn. Why oh why did no one care to inform me that they had changed the choice of hymn. I launch into introduction of I stand before the presence of the Lord God of hosts, and everyone starts singing Amazing Grace. OMG. I then proceed to mime it, bearing in mind I have no music in front of me. I don't even know how many verses to mime being there's no hymn book or sheet music before me. The guy on piano plays well enough to keep it going. I'm miming away and then they sing the last verse unbeknown to me and I'm still miming away !!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH |

Urgh. Just spent a week with on a canal boat wirh my parents and little cousin, who I love to bits and is like a sister to me. The holiday itself was great, but my cousin got really upset one evening and I just didn't know what to say and how to comfort her.
She's had a pretty hard time recently - her parents split up and she has two older brothers who basically went quite and locked their emotions up inside and her mum was distraught of course, so she realy didn't have anyone to turn to. But she found some comfort in their cat who she loved, but then he ran away as well when they were on holiday just as her eldest brother was also leaving for uni. She's now moving up from primary school, but she's going to a different secondary school to most of her friends and her closest friends. she found the school really scary on her induction day and saw people fighting, smoking, doing drugs etc. I really feel that with all this I should be able to comfort her and support her, but it's really hard to know what to say, and it doesn't help that she's a 3 hour car journey away up in Sheffield and I only see her twice a year at the most (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I love her so much and I really want to help her, but it's really hard (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

It's not the dark side to my school! Smoking maybe and the occasional fight, but all the druggies take their drugs before school, on the road leading up to it! Otherwise they'd have to share!
Ah, I didn't see any of that on my induction day, but if I had it would've given me a false impression of the school. It's really a very good school - as long as your cousin doesn't get mixed up in that stuff, she will probably have a very good experience of the school. |

I really feel that with all this I should be able to comfort her and support her, but it's really hard to know what to say, there are times in Life (don't I know it) when things happen and nobody can really help you. Nothing they say seems to help --- so I am sure you were doing your best DF, but what can you do? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

You should just go for it Soph - there's no point suffering when you could have it sorted (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif). I know it's a scary thought but sometimes you just have to do it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thereThere.gif)
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) *argh!* (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) |

I know people are going to hate me for mentioning it but I feel really fed up with not being able to play the violin properly at the moment. I doubt you've read my thread about it, but I've fractured my index finger, which isn't anything at all complex but it hurts muchly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) and I can only play for short periods. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) How am I ever going to improve if I can't practice properly for a month? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
Sorry for going on, I'm just a little frazzled! |
