Just spotted this on the RNCM website!
Good news: "Focus on double reed instruments" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yay.gif) Bad news (for me!): Same weekend as my orchestra concert (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Oh well - at least I should be able to go on the Sunday. And as usual there's no real information about it on the site.

Not around then, and in any case it looks not so much 'focus' as 'completely dominated by' double reeds...

Not sure Emsoboe will be bothered after the last masterclass on oboe..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) It was not well organised - they should have left enough time for all participants. We can't go this year, it clashes with a competition. |

Not around then, and in any case it looks not so much 'focus' as 'completely dominated by' double reeds... Yes it is effectively a double reed weekend. I spoke to Melinda Maxwell towards the end of last year about "why no wind weekend" and she said there wasn't the money available to put on a wind/brass weekend as the previous year but a double reed weekend was planned for this year. The line up is pretty impressive so I'll certainly be going to some if not all the concerts. I always enjoy masterclasses (as an observer I hasten to add). I'm not particularly bothered about the lack of playing opportunities for "grown ups", I seem to have enough on as it is. I may feel sufficiently bold to have a go on some oboes on Howarth's stand this year. |

More info about the weekend here:
Double reed weekend leaflet I have registered for the Sunday. I bought a CD of Malcolm Arnold Chamber Music last weekend and have been really enjoying the oboe playing on the Fantasy and Sonatina while listening on the way to work. Only got round to looking at the sleeve notes this morning and realised that the oboist is Gareth Hulse! So I am very much looking forward to his concert and masterclass! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Shame these isn't more info available on what is happening aside from concerts and masterclasses. The leaflet says "For all participants, there will be a series of open workshops and clinics on offer over the weekend covering everything from preparation for grade exams to contemporary technique." Sounds interesting. I'm looking forward to trying out some Cors on the trade stands. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |
