Hi,
This is the latest piece I'm starting to work on with my teacher. Having had a lesson last night and then a first look at Movement 1 today I already have some questions: One regarding notation used and one regarding fingering. Firstly, for reference, I am using the Breitkopf edition. And we are looking particularly at the transcrption of Baermann's Cadenza. A number of Fs, notably immediately preceding an Eb have circles printed above them. Why is this? I could hazard a guess that this might to signal an alternate fingering but am unsure. I know there's an alteranative that leaves the middle finger off whilst all the other RH fingers are down for a trill between Eb an F. Is it telling me to use this??? Not come accross this before so if anyone could confirm my guess or correct me I'd appreciate it. Secondly, and this is jumping well past where I really am with this piece but.... 4 bars brefore (L) there's a grace note on an altissimo D to a clarion A crotchet tied to Clarion G quaver. Wondering if the best way to do this is to use the side trill key with a fingered C and then drop to the A by adding the top two fingers. Standard D fingering just seemed a tad awkward. And Ok I lied there are 3 questions not 2!! 3) How would you do the final altissimo F# to G trill? We've discovered on my instrument that RT-2-G#/12-- Is a rather sharp G on my instrument and that RT-23/12 works rather better. Would you use the RH trill key? (same as you use for Bb)? with a fingered F#? Thanks in anticipation of your response. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clarinet.gif) |

I use standard D fingering here, but your way is equally valid Dawn. QUOTE And Ok I lied there are 3 questions not 2!! 3) How would you do the final altissimo F# to G trill? What I'd do is look at a fingering chart, try a few options with a tuner, and see which option you like. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Thankyou. I'm sure my teacher will help with that one too. I'm just trying to run before I can walk -- AGAIN!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
