Has anyone been speed dating and if so what was it like? I'm supposed to be going tonight but becoming increasingly nervous about it!

What is it? On first approach it sounds like a form of escort service but I don't know.

:lol: Maggiemay is right - you go to a bar type venue and the idea is to chat to each person there for X amount of minutes. It varies between 3-7 depending on the organisation running it and the amount of people there. The girls get to stay sitting down and the boys move around the room when the buzzer sounds. Never been before, not really my thing I don't think, but trying hard to give it a go and actually turn up!

I'm too young to at the moment, but it sounds like fun. I know a couple who met through speed dating, got married and are having their first baby sometime soon.

Met a friend for dinner the other night. She's been speed dating. When I asked her what it was like, she said it was just full of boring, ugly people... Not sure what that said about her lol ;)

I hope your experience is somewhat better, barcarolle!!

Isn't speed dating going to sit with a person and chat for 30 secs or something,and then move on to the next person. A case of instant attraction or not?

Isn't it better getting to know someone first as a friend and meeting through mutual interests, hobbies and such like?

Putting on my cloak of cynicism, I think it's a good idea because it reduces the cost for the guys. Instead of spending date after date splashing the cash and getting nowhere, at least they are put out of their misery without having to dip too deep in the pocket ;)

From the female point of view it saves wasting an evening getting all dolled up and then realising the man sitting opposite wasn't the right one,after all!!!!

A lovers' tiff between Semele and mrbouffant!

I'm not sure about the concept myself, but different things work for different people. It is nevertheless high time we had a proper forums romance around here - two posters meeting for the first time (perhaps at a forums concert), the spark of attraction is ignited, and hey presto, Deborah has to go out and buy yet another hat.

Imagine how good the choir would be at the wedding!

One thing that I have noticed is that the harder people seem to try in their quest for LURVE :wub:, the less likely they are to succeed.
