I can see why they chose the flautist... he was brilliant - I think I held my breath for most of that modern piece! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) But for me the most amazing thing was hearing blues played on the oboe! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) just incredibly compelling! Awwww
I listened to them online and thought Joseph Shiner was an outstanding clarinettist - was his performance not very good on the night? I haven't listened to the flautist yet. Many thanks too for the links - much appreciated (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Edited to say: just listened to the flutey-chap and wow, he's just great LOL! |

On the short extracts played I thought the oboist was going to win, but probably you need to listen to the whole performances to come to an informed choice.
I hated the way the programme was done though. About 3/4 of the programme was introducing the viewers to the players and showing us their "journeys", and only about 1/4 was given over to edited highlights of the performances. Given that the results were already known in February, the whole build-up just seemed fake, and dragged-out. Why couldn't the BBC show the earlier rounds when they happened? - that would have built-up tension naturally, and allowed viewers to follow the players journeys and get interested in them. As it is, it's like keeping the results of FA cup rounds secret until just before the final, and then just showing a few extracts of the matches. Chris |

It's not online yet is it?
What pieces did the flautist play? I didn't like him that much when I heard him online. |
