I came across this orchestra, which runs a course over five days during the winter half term, and my son applied for a last minute place.

It was such a fantastic experience and definitely the most challenging orchestral course he has taken part in. If anyone has kids of the appropriate level who are interested, the website is:

This sounds like a great opportunity. Not much use for me, but I imagine very useful for others. Glad your son enjoyed it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Definitely deserves to be much more widely known and celebrated! I was at their concert last week and was very impressed not only by the standard achieved but by the friendliness and lovely atmosphere.

Hats off, too, to Guy Johnson who came to rehearse the Moeran Cello concerto several times during the week with the students, so that the concert performance absolutely shone from start to finish.

Unfortunately I missed the concert because I was in Scotland but my husband raved (he never raves) and raved about it. DS has done a few similar residential courses this year and this has been the most polished and professional. It's a pity it's only on during winter half term.

My daughter was there for the 2nd year last week. She loves it (although she said the accommodation and food weren't as good as last year).
We've been very impressed by how friendly it is, both orchestral members and staff, and the standard of performance is very good.
I'd really recommend it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

They stayed at the Spec Centre last year and she said it was better. The food, sorry, got this a bit wrong as it was at Haberdashers like before, was basically the same (except she got mushrooms and hates them!) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
