I am from the Midlands But in Lee King speak (without of course revealing your location), you're not a local... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) The West Midlands region, sometimes called the Heart of Britain includes Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire the Black Country and the Second City. Was a good day. I took all the application forms in for this, and there appeared to be 22 participants, of whom over half were Midland based, but only five or six were what you might call 'local to Lee King', judging by your previous posts, Lee. That's still five or six more than what I expected in this region! |

That's still five or six more than what I expected in this region! There are no doubt more, and there are others from the area whom I know cover those counties (without revealing names). It is, as katyjay puts so much more eloquently than I do, about getting out there and finding them! |

Unfortunately I do not and just don't seem to be able to find them. If you're reading this and you're in the West Midlands region, please send me a PM to prove your existence. People are understandably elliptical about their location on what is after all a publically accessible forum that will show up entries on a search using any search engine.
Many generalise, like I do, others omit the informaiton entirely. I work in IT: the one thing you learn very, very early on is to never make assumptions. Technically I come under the West Midlands, but I live so far north in the region that I regard myself as North West (since places such as Manchester, Liverpool, even Bolton, are significantly nearer to me than Birmingham). At some point I will offer to organise an event, it's the kind of thing I'd enjoy doing. However, the big challenge is finding a venue and I'd want to sort that out before going public. I'd probably be looking at Chester, south/mid Cheshire. When I have some ideas, I'll let you know and I promise to provide a good few months notice (i.e. 4 - 6). |

Yes, all you lot get Granada up there, don't you? But it's definately in one of the counties I've named, so you're West Midlands. To be North West, you'd have to be north of Grindley Brook by the petrol station - where Cheshire starts. |

We've done Chester twice, with two different organisational teams, but both at the same venue. I was heavily involved with Chester 2, in 2009 : I'll dig out the info in a bit (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Yes, all you lot get Granada up there, don't you? Actually, no I don't and I can't remember the last time I watched ITV anyway. In terms of boundaries, I am several miles from Cheshire and a few from Wales. Technically I come under the West Midlands in terms of the county I live in. In terms of where I would go to do things, Birmingham is significantly harder to get to than either Liverpool or Manchester. Liverpool is just on an hour and Manchester is about an hour and 15 as I found out last weekend, and Birmingham is around the 70 miles mark and requries navigating a frequently congested chunk of the M6. [/quote] Well, it never takes me long to get up to Wrexham from here via the A41 from M54j3. Or indeed to Shrewsbury as it's dual carriageway all the way and then a very fast bit of A5 to Oswestry (and I drive within the speed limits) |

If you're reading this and you're in the West Midlands region, please send me a PM to prove your existence. (betcha I don't get any!) Bear in mind that not all members visit the cafe, or would read this thread. You might want to put a 'west midlands forumites?' thread elsewhere (in general music forum, perhaps, if you are going to talk about possible events (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)) |
