Hi
has anyone ever tried Stagg violins? there's a cheap one in a shop nereby and i'm tempted to buy just to see if i'm really into violin. I was going to buy a gliga genial 1 but then i stopped cause i don't know where i stand. Do you know if these violins are at least playable and tunable? I know that they are chinese and cheap quality but maybe i can test myself with it. |

I don't know about the acoustic ones, but to be honest most commercial chinese instruments are at least tuneable and playable these days. You've had such a tricky time getting a violin, maybe this is a sign? Buy it and try it, I say! THanks, if anybody has ever tried one please write!! I know i had a tricky time, i'm still disappointed my relative cannot bring one over for me cause there it's half price and if i were to get it over myself by post, i'd have to add custom duty fees to the shipping costs and therefore, would get no 'discount' at all!!!! However, we'll see. Thanks for your constant encouragement rosfrog! |

The descriptions found online of the Stagg violin i'm looking at is the following:-
"Traditionally handcrafted with selected woods by skilful instrument makers Constructed with high quality rugged materials Includes bow and rosin in case Spruce Top Maple Back and Sides Maple Neck and Bridge Black Metal Tailpiece Hard wood, ebonized Fingerboard, Chinrest and tuning pegs" What does high quality rugged materials mean? I thought that it may mean that it is not made of solid wood but a composition of materials. is this the definition of it? Thanks |

I have a Stagg electric violin and it's good, no idea about their acoustic ones though. I'm sure they're fine to start out on? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

It's probably comparable in quality to an Antoni but should be absolutely fine for a beginner to start with. Rugged material probably does mean something like it's a composite material rather than solid wood, it's likely to have cheapy steel strings but for a beginner, it probably won't be worth changing the strings at the moment.
