I have been asked to come up with some hymns for a Remembrance service: Not too Jingoistic, as half the congregation will be French or Spanish (or Occitaine).

We have a list but I wondered if anyone had any suggestions that we might not have considered?

Just so as not to prejudice things, I won't tell you what's already on the list!

O God Our Help in Ages Past is my favourite. I like the timelessness of it, and the way it ends as it began. And what about Eternal father, Strong to Save?

I'm not into hymns about peace and reconciliation, particularly, for this service; I think this one is about remembering and honouring those who have died.

Can't remeber the name of the tune, though, as it was in one of the alternative books. Not 'Ellers', though I do like that.

The tune is 'The Supreme Sacrifice' by Revd. C. Harris. The words and music really pull on the heart strings in my opinion! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

If you google 'O valiant hearts tune' you'll find a document with the tune and the words comes out top of the list.
