Hi

I am a trainee singing teacher/singer, and I have been trying to get hold of the book listed in the ABRSM Syllabus as "Icelandic Art Songs, First Collection" (see, for example, Grade 6 List C13, 22, 23 and 40). However this book appears only to be available from the Icelandic publishers (http://www.isalog.info/isalog/index.html), and since I can't read/speak Icelandic, I am having trouble...

Is there an obligation on the ABRSM to ensure that one can actually obtain a copy of the music on the syllabus? It seems pointless to me to list a song when the book containing it is almost impossible to get hold of.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

I can't help with this specifically. However, if you have a local sheet music shop I suggest you ask them if they can get it for you. My local shop got me some obscure Polish music that it was going to be difficult and expensive for me to get direct from the publishers in Warsaw. It was, however, straightforward for them to get it via their usual suppliers at no extra cost for postage from Poland.

Sorry if you've already tried this.

No, hadn't tried it, and there are two music shops at least that I could try... it's a good thought, thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Though, I really think AB ought to sell it if they're putting it on the exam list. But that's probably a separate issue!

I would just email them at the address on this webpage and just ask them. They are probably quite use to dealing with enquiries in English. Alternatively call them.

At least you can have a good look at the first page of the songs before you buy!

Good luck!
