I hear from two friends that they are involved in trying to start a daytime Wind Band in Alton, Hants. The first gathering will be on Wednesday, 21st April at 2.30pm at the Friends' (Quaker) Meeting House in Alton (39 Church Street, GU34 2DA). It has full disabled access.

If you want to know more please PM or email me and I'll send you the contact details or pass your message on.

Edit: Skylark, thanks very much for the offer to pin this. I'm sure it will be much appreciated.

I've put it in the "Playing Opportunities near you" thread pinned at the top of the Forum Events sub-forum and I've done a link to this thread (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I'm not directly concerned, but will ask and report back.

There were seven players at the first meeting and four others had planned to be there but were stranded elsewhere. If everyone had managed it they would have had 2 flutes, 2 clarinets, bass clarinet, saxophone, 2 cornets, trumpet, trombone and euphonium, so quite a balanced group immediately. The plan is to meet weekly for two hours with a break in the middle (I'm just waiting for confirmation of day and time). Clari-Netty I'll PM or email you with the contact details.

Edit: I can now confirm that the band will meet on most Wednesdays from 2.30-4.30 (that may literally mean all the year round - quite a lot of UK wind or brass bands do continue over the summer, perhaps doing their local "fêtes and fairs" circuit). PM or email me for contact details.
