Yes really (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) You can have a teeny weeny bit of a panic and then banish it because WE KNOW YOU CAN DO IT and you will be utterly and totally fabulous.

I'll make a banner to cheer you on and will be completely thrilled for you when you perform as a concert violinist. We'll be with you every step of the way (IMG:style_emoticons/default/party2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/party2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/party2.gif)

LOL I doubt it....I have made it clear that it's my 4th instrument, and with band camp and a concert to sing in at the end of oct that is not going to change for a while....and as for the violin, that now needs 2 hours a day I think (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

LOL yes, probably....

Well I had my lesson yesterday...started the Moto perpetuo. So this week (even though I will not be able to practice virtually at all) I need to do:

2 finger scales as the 1-2 ones above only on 2-3 and 3-4. Now that is going to be interesting!! Of course all the others too....

The MP: first page 1 note at a time. Prepare for next note (left finger immediately) pause and chk RH and LH pos. Next note etc

2 notes legato at a time
2 notes separate and fast at a time
4 notes separate and fast at a time
each time checking RH and LH at each pause.

I am at band Mon/Tues here in Gib before we fly. I'm going to take it with me and see if I can find a cupboard to practice in at lunchtime!! I'm also going to put the piece on my kindle, take it to the UK and play air violin on the journey. Might get a few funny looks but should help me learn it!!

It's going to feel very strange not playing for a full week....

Dawn, has your teacher said why he wants you to learn particularly 'that' piece? (just curious)

by the way I have to say that I love more or less all Paganini pieces but I really 'dislike' moto perpetuo (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rofl.gif) to me it sounds like a jumbled up mess (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) maybe it's like marmite??? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I have to say you are brave to take up the challenge, it seems a very difficult piece to learn! I take my hat off to you!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/howDoYouDo.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/notworthy.gif)

I think it's because it's very fast; he wants me to learn to play faster, controlled, but also because he knows I get the shakes really badly in concert, even though I am confident I can play. They show with slow bows but not on something like that. He hasn't said as much, but that is my gut feeling, to give me confidence in front of people.

I think it's also that I'm his oldest student so he wants something showy for me to not be upstaged by 12 year olds!!

erm....if he wants you to learn to play faster I have to say that you must 'already know' how to play relatively fast if he picked 'that' piece....... (cough cough) as you can't get much faster than that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rofl.gif) (you must be pretty good already (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif))

I also have to learn to play faster but my teacher would not go anywhere near a speed like that with me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Interesting nugget today...playing fast is the speed that you take your fingers off the string rather than the speed you put them down. I like that - and it worked. Treat the fingerboard like its red hot. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Looks like Schindlers List (in Eflat!) and Shostokovich Romance from the Gadfly are on the menu for me to perform for the band concert. Mmm going to take some guts. A bit of a step up from the folky ones! And I might only have a couple of weeks to learn them too. Nothing like a little pressure...... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Hoping they are not in the BM's mind for the cave concert in Dec. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

New challenges! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yay.gif)
And the nugget sounds good. Maybe I should think about for flute playing. No, I already know, that it's true for flute also.
