VN said she has had a wonderful day yesterday and I can't resist reporting it. The day began with a cough which disappeared just like that! Maybe it was only pollen-induced?

Then she was due to be in the local papers so we stopped by the newsagents on the way to school so she could show and tell. The kids in her class are pretty "popular" as quite a few have been doing this already! Some are models whilst others got in through achievement in sports. She was in the papers last week for something to do with nature which was entirely accidental as a newspaper photographer suddenly turned up at Hainault Forest Park unannounced! The staff had forgotten to tell the parents beforehand. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) In any case, we had also accidentally missed that paper. So this week we made sure she didn't miss the music article.

Had a good day in school was her report. She likes Art/Design & Technology. Staff, pupils and parents made a fuss over / congratulated her and this time she enjoyed it. In the past, she minded any fuss as she can be very shy at times.

Got home and we realised I'd forgotten to defrost the chicken, so, we had to have her favourite - fish and chips! This is non-routine when not celebrating and usually reserved for holidays as we always have home-cooked family meals due to the kids' anaphylaxis.

Then she went for her violin lesson in the evening and got all her multiple stops - is that what they are called? - correct! Boy, she was over the moon! She had learnt the stops very differently/wrongly from her friends and it was much harder to UNlearn (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) than to LEarn them she found!

Finally, to top it all, she spotted a beautiful and clear rainbow in the sky on the way home. Rainbow is one of her "most favourite" things! What a day! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

This morning she said she will enter "yesterday" in her picture diary - a secret diary in which she draws her experiences.

Has anyone else got a great day this week? Care to share it???

Aw lovely! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) They come round every now and then don't they?

I had a super day yesterday, we went up to the grandparents' for lunch (we being my mum, 3 siblings and my great aunt) which we all enjoyed, after which I gave everyone a mini recital of a couple of tunes from the concert that evening on my viola, I played my part along with cd and they all had a go on my viola too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Then came the concert, which was in a massive church in Plymouth. It was such good fun and as well as family members, a couple of friends came to see me too! After we concluded with Pomp and Circumstance no. 4 lots of people were feeling a bit emotional as it was the last concert for many students. Then we had a little nosh-up and a drink and it all ended with such a super atmosphere. I could so do that for a living! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)

Aww, that's lovely, Boo. What else did you play? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

We don't get to hear the viola being played at all. There are no violists in my daughter's orchestra. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

This was our full programme (apart from the woodwind and brass sectionals): (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Alford - Colonel Bogey March
Holst - Suite in E Flat
Mussorgsky - Night On The Bare Mountain
Holst - Brook Green Suite (strings)
Handel - Arrival Of The Queen Of Sheba (strings and oboes)
Elgar - Pomp And Circumstance March No. 4 in G

One of my grans was getting quite emotional about the whole thing, which was very sweet. We recorded the concert on my rubbishy mp3 player and I am now going to convert the crackly file into a cd for the grandparents, who have always been my biggest fans. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

No violas! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) That's terrible, why don't they sacrifice some violinists?

Which orchestration VN? The Rimsky-Korsakov? Some might claim the translation of the title is "Night on a Bald Mountain"... Being mrbouffant, I couldn't condone such interpretation...

The music article was in our local paper too - and that's a lovely picture of you, VN! Well done for all your achievements! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Glad you had great days, VN and Boo!

Boo, that sounds a fantastic programme (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Night on the Bare Mountain is lovely (bit of a Mussorgsky fan here...), as is Arrival of the Queen of Sheba (though I've only heard it arranged for Horn ensemble, which was amazing).

Hi Mb, it was raining in Essex, too, this morning but now it's beautiful! The sun has just come out. Hope it will clear for you soon!

Thanks Jo, Nicki and all...

Jo, VN read your wishes with a broad smile. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Thanks! Yes, overall we think it was a good article because it respects our requests to adopt a down to earth tone - we make NO presumptions whatsoever as to her future plans such that 10 yrs later, should VN wants to study Physics/Russian or ride like TPS, she will not feel a failure! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Her headmistress's comments re. cat-strangling was funny! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

MrB and FB, we heard the LSO playing Mussorgsky's Night On The Bare Mountain at the Barbican and it was absolutely fantastic! We all fell in love with it immediately.

NOTBM is super isn't it! That was the favourite of all my 'fan club' who came along. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I think my favourite of the evening was the Elgar, just for the fact that March no. 1 is so overplayed but no. 4 is just as good IMO and is just fantastic to play in!
