I know lots of beers with genius names, and if you go to a festival you usually get a booklet listing all the beers - a rich source of entertainment in itself. There are two breweries reasonably near me which seem to specialise in fun names for their beers. One has beers called This and That (and if I'm not mistaken I've seen one called T'other as well). The other is based in a village that lends its names to the range of beers - Piddle in the Hole, Piddle in the Wind, Piddle in the Snow - you get the idea! I also like Goff's beers which have a Knights of the Round Table theme. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The only draught real ale across the water here is Old Speckled Hen, although there is a small annual beer fest. And we have Morrisons, so we get a good bottled selection too... My fave was always Everard's Tiger...but Old Peculiar has floored me on a few occasions!! (I discovered I can no longer play the violin after 5 pints.... LOL)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Too bad that all liquid now has to go in check luggage (just got home to find lovely curry sauce had leaked all over my clothes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) ) The last time I tried to bring back a selection of interesting ales and cider (from Canada, in fact) I had the bad luck to turn up early at the airport (so hadn't seen the news) - it was the day of the UK bomb attempt that prompted control on liquids. That was the earliest tipple I've ever had, I think... and I eventually convinced a wary lady to take the rest as I just couldn't bear to throw it in the bin.

From Little Valley Brewery, Hebden Bridge:- Python IPA (6% abv) Sixpence Bitter (3.7%abv) The Sixpence was rather nice for a weakish one. Also we sampled a bottled Belgian Beer 'Floris Passion' (3.6%abv) with added Passion Fruit flavour, quite palatable if you go for that sort of thing.

Maestro Group: Members Posts: 12226 Joined: 7-June 06 From: Wirral (originally Keighley, Yorks) Member No.: 7089	This week Town St Tavern has had 'Old Legover' (Daleside Brewery Knaresborough) on draught, though I admit it was mentioned in an earlier post. Another one this week was Ilkley Brewerys 'Mary Jane' whos been courting on Ilkla Moor in the second verse of the famous Yorkshire song. This beer is also the staple on at The Chevin Hotel, Otley. Next week I am going to be in Christchurch, Hants from Monday to Friday. What beers should I look out for down there ?
