Hi,
I have been reading the forums for a while and actually posted a couple of times but thought I'd introduce myself properly.
Music has been part of my life as long as I remember, I live it, breathe it. Might sound a bit serious but actually it's fun!
I spent 7 years at Purcell then went on to Trinity and then just as it was all about to happen I got ill. I have kept a teaching practice going and it's been hard sometimes but I love it. Now I'm about to finally do a diploma (20 years later) and it's very scary!
I also have 2 children, both into their music and 4 (unfortunately about to be 3) cats.
My life is a bit mad but fun.
See you around the forums I guess.

Miffy

A while ago I started a thread on how to pronounce Purcell and it's several pages long (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Hi everyone,

Thankyou for my welcome. It will be nice to join in for good advice and some fun, and maybe be able to help a little too from time to time.

Skylark, I'm very curious - how many ways are there to pronounce Purcell??

Stetenorve - thanks, kitty still going, have no idea how, she's a tough little thing.

Thanks again all.x

I think there are two main ways - 'PURcell (like Persil) or Pur'CELL. This link takes you to a post in the thread which would seem to prove that in Purcell's day, it was pronounced 'PURcell.

I've since discovered that the "cell" syllable might be pronounced with a "z" sound, ie 'PURzel (a bit like "puzzle").

The last page of the thread went a bit off-topic, but prior to that, there were five pages of discussion on how it should be pronounced (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I've always said PurCELL.
When I was little and people asked which school I went to they'd say "haha like the washing powder"
Yep, that got old very fast together with "wots in the violin case luv, a machine gun?"

Well, it seemed to make their day anyway!
