I just wondered what is the more up to date term for sounding like a "broken record", given that many people won't even know what a broken record sounds like. Stuck CD doesn't quite cover it. Any suggestions?

I reckon it'll just continue to exist as a saying long after everyone forgets what it really meant. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yes - a lot of stock phrases that we still use today have historical roots.

Yep. I wouldn't worry about it for as long as we still have the 'fast forward' and 'rewind' symbols.

We still "dial" numbers on phones, even though proper dials went out decades ago. Does anyone talk about "keying" phone numbers?

I have heard at work: "Can you punch Fred's digits and see if he can make the meeting?" I had visions of somone's fingers being hammered (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

Oh no. That sounds like buzz phrasing at its worst. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

In answer to the OP's question; how about 'like a politician'? They always repeat themselves (or what their spin doctors have told them to say) like broken records, even when there is nothing to say.

How many times have I heard politicians of all colours talking about 'doing the right thing'? Tony B started it at least ten years ago, but none of them seem to be able to think of anything more original.

Typing a letter with my daughter on the laptop and I asked her to do a 'carriage return' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Well I did learn to type in the dark ages !!

Actually, even on modern computers, there are different characters for Carriage Return and Line Feed.

I'll stop being geeky now.
