HI. I'm new to the forum and still finding my way around. I've looked at the 'events' section, but can't find anything near me - ie. E. Midlands, more specifically round Leicester. I started learning flute about four years ago, am having lessons, did Grade 6 in November, but I really want to play with others.. either in a flute choir or wind ensemble. I play in a small group which meets fortnightly..but it's getting smaller and smaller! and might dwindle away (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I'd love to get involved in more playing, does anyone know of happenings in my area? PS. I'm very adult.. (over sixty)

You may find you need to travel though there could be another one in Birmingham next year. If there is it could be as late as November. There is one planned by Scotliz for November this year in Gloucester. Watch out for information in the next couple of months.
Event organisers venues which are accessible no public transport.
Though it may seem like a good idea to have more events in more locations aside from the issue of somebody to organise them it would be difficult to generate sufficient numbers without significant local non forum interest. Most of the events I've been to have had quite a number of participants travelling some distance.

Hello Chris and welcome..I don't know of any events and you may have to travel to some in your neck of the woods..Some people go huge distances to play at them (forum events) and by all reports they are very good and everyone has a fabulous time..Sbhoa, KatyJay and Barryclari are the big hitters when it comes to events to hopefully they will keep you posted re whatever is going on...

Seeing as your little group is dwindling take a look here..

http://www.amateurorchestras.org.uk/omidland.htm

there maybe a group, orchestra etc that you could go along to..Dont be put off by websites saying they want Grade 8 etc..in my experience its total nonsense so get your name down and get busy..somone will have a paddy and a chair will open up, it happens all the time..

Best of luck and pop by Viva woodwind, theres lots of you flutey types in here.

Hello and welcome to the forums! The East Midlands mafia is expanding, so a local event may be on the cards in the next year or so (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fingersCrossed.gif)

I'd invite you to my orchestra in Market Harborough, chrislock (long story as to how I ended up directing an orchestra there despite living in South East London (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ), but we're already full of flutes, and have a waiting list... Is anything happening with the Market Harborough orchestra at the moment?
