Going to a forum concert in July and the piece I had originally decided to do, in my opinion does not seem to be particularly easy on the ear for an audience, soooooo I've decided I'm going to explore some new repertoire. I *like* a challenge but am aware that if this is going to be an accompanied piece, it needs to be something that an accompanist can turn around fairly quickly.

The requirements are -

*Must be a max of 5 minutes long*
*Can be accompanied or unaccompanied*
*Something that will hold my interest for the next 2 months for practise*
*Would like something that shows off the clarinet and it's range*

I'm not sure how you'd find a piece that's intended to be either accompanied or unaccompanied, but I wondered whether Mozart's Clarinet Quintet might fit the bill otherwise. It probably wouldn't be hugely technically challenging, but it shows off the range of the clarinet excellently, is about the right length and wouldn't pose too much of a problem for the accompanist.

If a non-clarinetist can gatecrash - I worked with someone on the 1st 2 movements of the Grovlez clarinet concertino for a past forum event. I really liked both playing and listening to it. It wouldn't have been a sightreadable piano accompaniment for me but it didn't seem too hard with a couple of weeks to work on it.

Sorry don't think I worded the accompaniment bit quite right! I do not mind if the piece is an accompanied one or a completely solo (unaccompanied) piece.

I know Mozarts' Clarinet Quintet inside out (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) would certainly be nice to play it but I'm looking to perform it with the correct string quartet later in the year and I'm doing a Mozart trio.

what about the horowitz sonatina for clarinet and piano?

or brahms clarinet sonatas 1/2? (These are lovely pieces (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )

The Brahms sonatas are lovely but not something the average accompanist can turn round quickly.

I'd go for something unaccompanied - maybe one of the Harvey Gershwin Etudes. I'm also fond of the Bella Kovacks Hommages.

Best if I don't have too many difficult accompaniments to accommodate.
We are lucky to have some decent pianists to cover accomps but I prefer not to take liberties. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Doesn't matter if it's been done before.

Somebody is already playing the Prelude from VKG.
