As I slowly realise that I am going to have to excel in all other papers in order to counter for the terrible mark I'll get on the listening paper, I've found that I am useless on the longer answer questions.
Particularly on the Comparisons question which is worth 6 marks in question 2. I have the Rhinegold book, and I have a go at the questions, and then the answers are just so obvious, but I never put them. Any ideas? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

Hey!
When I did my paper, I made a chart of the two extracts whilst listening to them and split it into headings e.g. texture, dynamics, instrumentation, ornamentation etc and then i made notes whilst i was listening to them and the comparisons and similarities that they were asking for were already in front of me. Hope that helps! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Thanks! I do make 2 charts already, but splitting them into sections will help focus me a bit more! Thanks a lot - I'll text you soon about our next meet up!

Awwwwwwwww (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thereThere.gif) Wish I could help (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) To be honest, it's more a "connection" thing missing. When I look at the answers to see what I should have wrote, I know I did hear whatever it was, but I don't think to write it down. |

How about writing down *everything* you hear then crossing out what you think is irrelevant?
Just for a try to see what happens. |

The problem is, I don't think "oh that is too obvious", the thought doesn't enter my head....
If the answer says "melody in the lower woodwind", then I know I will have heard it, but the idea of it doesn't occur to me. I can't explain anything tonight sorry |

Glad I am making sense to somebody.
And I've run out of examples to practice with. *darn expensiveness of Rhinegold books and CDs* |

I have the same problem. Exactly the same thing happens to us. One of the mark schemes said that Michael Crawford was a Baritone in 'Music of the Night' which was on the comparison question - is this right? We put tenor (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) How are we supposed to know differences like that? |

I've read similar things, where answers have been like "contralto"...I'd never guess stuff like that.
