Hi there I am doing my grade 7 and not sure yet what pieces to choose, it is very difficult as the only way to hear all the options in the syllabus is to look on Youtube and there are only a few posted on there,
Has anybody on here taken grade seven (pedal harp) recently out of the ABRSM 2011-2014 syllabus? if so can you suggest any nice pieces. thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/harp.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/harp.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/harp.gif) |

Hi Emilylou!
Well done for getting to such a high standard. I'm a piano teacher but just have grade 2 on harp. I don't know the pieces in the list, but would suggest that the John Rutter piece is worth looking at as he writes lovely music (it depends what sort of thing you are looking for but his music has beautiful melodies and is not too modern if that's what you want). Anyway, good luck! |

We have just looked and Moreleys have some recordings but only go to grade 4! |

I've had a listen to Youtube clips of list B pieces - the Rutter is fairly introspective. The Ibert is cheery and tuneful - do you have a harp teacher who could suggest some as not all of them are on there?

DHC's Nataliana and the Watkins Fire Dance are favourites of mine. Watch out that Zabel wrote a Marguerite Douleureuse au Rouet, and also Marguerite au Rouet and it is the latter which is on the syllabus. Tournier's Au Matin is a very common choice

She has sorted her music now and they are lovely pieces, .....good as I'll have to listen to them for months! |
