I am amazed that our mobile phone charges area actually cheaper here than in mainland Europe, as everything else seems to be more expensive in the UK.

Like what? I find most things that I want to buy (food, clothes, books, toys, electronics, shoes - esp children's shoes, gym membership, dentists) to be very cheap compared to Italy. I hear a lot of people saying Britain is a rip off but I really don't see it. The only things I find cheaper in Italy are wine, coffee, pizza and train fares.

I have lost my front door key. Husband and I left home at the same time this morning, and I know that I locked the front door behind me... then when I got home at lunchtime I couldn't find the key. I'm fairly sure that I can only have dropped it in a place where only friends could pick it up, but still (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
So - do I claim on my house insurance to have the lock changed, pay an excess of ?100 and lose my no-claims bonus? Or just have the lock changed and not claim? Or just assume that if it's lost, it won't be picked up by a stranger and can't be identified anyway?

If there's nothing on the key that would enable someone to identify the address of your property then I wouldn't worry about it.

I've just renewed my contents insurance with Bradford and Bingley and decided to pay ?1.25 a month to cover lost / stolen keys as I can be a bit scatty sometimes. The good thing is that there's no excess and it doesn't count as a claim.

EDIT: That would be 1.25 GBP, not one and a quarter question marks. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

That's ok. No wonder I got precisely no votes for Most Helpful Poster. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Aw, thank you! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) That's the second nice thing someone's said to me today. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Mind you, you should have seen me at university; keys left in practice rooms, keys left in telephone kiosks, keys left in other people's rooms... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

Eh, it could be worse. The guy who lived next to me left the door of his room wide open all the time. I guess, in the absence of his keys (goodness knows where they went) the huge piles of crockery and unwashed laundry acted as sufficient deterrent to would-be tricksters and thieves!

I only ever saw it tidy one. And then it was spotless. I stopped, astonished, and stared in. I was tempted to get my camera.

"Me Mam's coming over from Ireland" he explained.

I can only think she must have been the most formidable of ladies!
