I used to play violin a long time ago at school and have recently decided to start playing again. My 2 eldest daughters are learning at school using the Fiddle Time series so I'm trying to play something from there. My violin went missing years ago so I'm using my sister's violin but it's scratchy(could be because the strings are the same ones she last used 20 odd years ago?lol).I remember learning using Eta Cohen books but Mum hasn't found those yet.I am finding it quite hard going as I can't afford music lessons just yet-hoping to be able to do that in March.
Anyone else taken up Violin after a long break like this?(22 years or so for me)

Hello & welcome!
That sounds a little bit like me. I played violin at school (with a dreadful teacher!) and for a while afterwards at college but then didn't touch it for 15 years. I had a go (about 24 years ago) at teaching myself viola but my college was full of brilliant viola players and short of violinists so that didn't amount to anything. Last month I decided to have another go at teaching myself the viola so here I am... I'm hoping to arrange a 'one-off' lesson in the near future - my first string lesson for 25 years!

Hi there!

Welcome to the forums, Beginner_again.

I'm not a violin re-starter, I'm a violin-from-the-very-beginning person (I think I've had 7 lessons now). I'm really enjoying it, though, and I hope you'll do so too.

Cheers

Katyjay
