this is a bit random..well today my dad seems to have suddenly decided he's gonna learn the piano again. he played as a child, though he says he was never any good, and then forgot how to play. i've shown him where middle c is on the keyboard and the staves, he can play with about the right melodic shape but not necessarily the right notes! and he could just about remember semibreaves, crotchets and quavers..
i want to help him to learn again if i can, but i'm not really sure to start 'piece-wise' - the only thing i'm sure of is that i definetely need to teach him the notes and rhythms again, but the grade 1 repertoire is still too hard :s we have the old fashioned john thompson's piano course books so i could try those, but i didn't find the exercises that exciting and he got bored and started trying to skip some earlier. :s when i was learning i did keyboard first before moving on to piano, so i have quite a few keyboard books but not really any beginners piano music :s
if anyone has any suggestions/knows of any resources on the web i would be greatful! even though all the effort will probably be wasted after a week when he changes his mind... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

How old is Dad? If baby-boomer aged like me, perhaps the Trinity accredited Rockschool Popular Piano series might be of interest? Goes from Grade 1 through to Grade 8 with diploma being piloted in late 2007.

See http://www.rockschool.co.uk for info. Not just piano, but whole range of modern instruments and vocals too.
