I might be organising a small fundraising concert at our local school/church this summer. Still haven't say yes to it (yet) as I need to know EXACTLY what I'll be letting myself in for, before volunteering to be one of 3 co-organisers? Am I mad? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Polyannaish or suicidal, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) I wonder, bearing in mind, that I never get enough sleep each night, as a result of my kid's asthma, severe eczema and autism?
But then jo clarinet did so well, I recall, at the forums concert at Bancrofts and she must have worked very hard indeed to pull it off. The participants themselves seemed to have sacrificed just one full day (same day for both practice and performance!) and what's more, they enjoyed themselves immensely! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) So, shall I? Any advice (how frequent the committee meets to plan things and broadly, what steps need to be taken logistically, etc) from jo clarinet, katyjay and others who have done one before, will be greatly valued. The venue may be either my kid's local school or my church's hall so that's one thing sorted at least or is it? Does one need special licence from the local authority or additional insurance cover just in case parents, relatives and friends of participants (kids) are not covered? It is NOT intended for the OPEN public in general but then arguably, relatives and friends of the kids themselves might be treated in law to be the public? Many thanks indeed! Tess, I'll e-mail you my kick-off document. Some of it is related to actually performing, so ignore that, but the rest should be relevant.
I find that it's a small amount of admin most days, but a couple of one-off bursts of activity to (1) find the place (2) tell people about it - in my case the websites and (3) set everything up before anyone arrives on the day. I've not done this with a committee, but my experience of chairing committees in the past leads me to say don't have too many people on it, make sure each of them has a specific area of responsibility and be absolutely sure that the chairman's decision is final.
